A description of the engagement on Lake Champlain October 13, 1776.
After the Battle of Valcour Island, the American fleet fled south along the lake. The British caught up with them near Charlotte and the two naval powers engaged in a sailing battle that lasted two and a half hours, shown here in this engraving. This print shows the British fleet surrounding the American vessels on October 13, 1776 and was produced by R. Sayer. The historical accounts come from letters of Sir Guy Carleton, Captain Douglas and Captain Pringle written after the engagement. Reproduction, 19" x 25.5".
