Edward and Tamara K. Homer Champlain Discovery Scholarship Fund

Champlain Discovery is LCMM’s kayak building and outdoor education program designed to help teens develop life skills while gaining deeper appreciation for the cultural and natural history of the Champlain Valley. Established in 2009, the Edward and Tamara K. Homer Champlain Discovery Scholarship Fund makes it possible for teens with financial need to participate in this empowering and life-altering program. Edward and Tamara Homer’s commitment to support the Museum’s preservation and education programs began in our earliest years. Gifts to this fund help to ensure the availability of this dynamic program for a diverse economic audience. More about Champlain Discovery.

Bradley Cunningham Memorial Scholarship Fund
This annual scholarship was established in memory of Champlain Discovery trip leader and alumnus Brad Cunningham. Bradley was a participant in the Champlain Discovery kayak building and outdoor education program in 1996, and he returned for four consecutive years to work as a junior trip leader in the program. He was an incredible role model for students and staff alike. In the most unassuming way, Brad exuded confidence, competence, and compassion. This scholarship honors Bradley’s memory by ensuring a life-changing experience for a new student each year, giving us all an opportunity to reflect on and learn from Brad’s unique and special qualities. Robert Beach Sr. Maritime Apprenticeship Fund
In 2016, through contributions to honor Robert Beach, Sr.’s adventurous spirit and love of history, LCMM created the Robert Beach, Sr. Maritime Apprenticeship to provide a unique and exciting opportunity for young people interested in developing maritime skills. In the 2017 season, four enthusiastic high school students will accompany the crew of canal schooner Lois McClure as she travels from Lake Champlain through the Champlain and Erie Canals, bound for the 2017 Worlds Canals Conference. LCMM welcomes additional contributions to the Robert Beach, Sr. Maritime Apprenticeship Fund to help support future Maritime Apprenticeships. More about schooner Lois McClure.
